Roz: Seventeen hundred syllables
I signed up to this with reluctance. I can hardly draw, my photography relies heavily on instagram filters, and craft-wise I can sew a bag together with minimal stitch unpicking. However, I can throw a syllable around with some level of competency.
So, haikus. Easy, yes? Overworked to the point of pointlessness. Poets.org has this to say:
"As the form has evolved, many of these rules—including the 5/7/5 practice—have been routinely broken. However, the philosophy of haiku has been preserved: the focus on a brief moment in time; a use of provocative, colorful images; an ability to be read in one breath; and a sense of sudden enlightenment and illumination."
With this in mind I will record a moment from my day, every day, in the 5/7/5 form, sticking as closely to the philosophy of haiku as I can. I don't think this will be as easy as it sounds.
