Zoe and Rose show me how to use CAD
Today I popped over to meet Zoe and Rose who are both 11 years old.
They were designing a base to 3D print for the robotics unit they were building as part of Zombiebots (http://zombiebothq.com). They were using Autodesk 123D (http://www.123dapp.com/design) which is a free Computer Aided Design (CAD) system that allows you to build and design a component and then save it in a format that a 3D printer could print.
The girls used a pair of digital calipers to take measurements of the robot board they wanted to hold and then applied these numbers to their design.
Even though the girls had never used the software before, they were able to quickly figure it out and start using it straight away.
Because its free, you too can download it and try designing something at home.
