Day 3:
Jared teaches me how to move a can using static electricity
Jared is 7 years old and today he showed me and a group of other children how he could get a drinks can to fall off the table without touching it.
He took a balloon and rubbed it on his hair which caused electrons to build up on the surface of the balloon. Electrons have a negative charge and they have the power to pull electons with a positive charge closer to them. The surface of the can has a positive charge, so when Jared held his balloon which was holding a static charge close to the can, it rolled towards it.
He was able to use this charge to roll the can from the middle of the table all the way off one of the ends!
