Nanogirl: Star Science

Nanogirl wants to find 100 friends to do science experiments with her to prove that no matter who you are or what your education level, you can always have fun with science.

Day 52:

Matt makes a whole lot of bubbles

Today I was on the TV show What Now and Matt was one of the crew members in charge of the foam machine. He basically controlled the pressure on a tank mixed with soap and water which was used to foam the children in the audience!

The bubbles that make up the foam are pockets of soap and water that are filled with air. When soap and water are mixed together and air is blown into the mixture, the soap forms a thin skin or wall and traps the air, creating a bubble. When you add lots of bubbles together, you get a foam.

You can make your own foam by mixing bubble bath, shampoo or soap in a bowl of water, then sloshing it all around with your hands until it foams up!
