100 Days Project

Jacinda: Inkweed

100 black ink drawings of common New Zealand garden weeds (plants found growing where they are not wanted). The drawings, made on A4 paper, will loosely depict the plants' essential characteristics. Where possible I will identify them using the Massey University Weed Database and other online sources. On completion I will output all the drawings as one large poster on photorag paper.

Day 58:

Onehunga Weed

Botanical name: Soliva sessilis
Family name: Asteraceae

This has to be one of the most annoying weeds in New Zealand. Not only to draw, with its multitude of tiny leaves. As it says on the Massey Weeds Database: turf weeds that put prickles in your bare feet when you walk across a lawn are never popular, especially in home lawns and recreational areas. It is an annual weed which is very small in size, usually fitting beneath the blades of the mower without barely being touched each time the lawn is mowed.
